Anime prvi put prikazan u Japanu od 10.8.1997. - 4.1.1998.
Sastoji se od 25 epizoda. Tvorac Berserka je Kentaro Miura.

Serijal je originalan i prisiljava na gledanje od samog početka.
Priča je smještena u srednjovjekovnu zemlju Midland i prati grupu plačenika Band of the Hawks koju predvodi Griffis i njihovo napredovanje tokom nekoliko godina. Glavni lik je Gatts čovjek stvoren je za borbu, iznimnih fizičkih sposobnosti. Svi likovi u serijalu su različiti, a kroz dijalog doznajemo o njihovoj prošlosti, nadama, ambicijama i strahovima. Likovi su izvrsno okarakterizirani.
Anime obiluje krvavim scenama, i borbama, ali i odličnom pričom.
Možda će netko zamjeriti kraju serijala iz dva razloga. Prvi: misliti će da su zadnje dvije epizode previše bolesne, ali ja mislim da ovaj serijal nije mogao završiti na bolji način. Drugo: priča nije dovršena, to je istna ali to daje posebnu vrijednost Berserku, a iz prve epizode može se donekle naslutiti što se dogodilo poslje eplipse. Postoji i nastavak u obliku mangi 7 chaptera pod nazivom 'Post apocalypse' i zasada 25 vol. naravno pod nazivom 'Berserk'. Kraj se još uvijek nenazire.

Synopsis:
Long ago, Marfa (goddess of creation) and Kardis (goddess of destruction) fought a great war that split the continent and formed a new land. This land came to be known as Lodoss - The Accursed Land. Review:
Watching Record of Lodoss War is like watching a great RPG campaign unfold without having to play. The story's progression is both plot and character driven. Our band of heroes has to do everything to save Lodoss from destruction, and yet each character has his own purposes to fulfill. Viewers can empathize with the characters as they gain experience and as their personalities are revealed. They make decisions that affect the movement of the story. ROLW is also very specific in its treatment of the characters' abilities, attacks, and magic spells. The spells even have their own detailed casting chants.
