U ovom vesternu John Wayne glumi mladog studenta prava(John Clay), koji traži pravdu nakon ubistva roditelja.
Njih je ubio bogati i nemilosrdni zemljoposednik(Alexander Stiles), nakon što su odbili da mu prodaju zemlju. 
Pošto na sudu ne uspeva da istera pravdu, rešava da se posluži pištoljima.
Uz pomoć još dva stočara, koja je u bedu oterao Stiles, okuplja i druge osiromašene stočare i sukobljava sa Stilesom.
